Developmental trauma

Negative childhood experiences. These are described as ACEs [adverse childhood experiences]. Research shows that these negative experiences can have a major impact on your later life.


Occupational trauma

People who are exposed to violent events through their work. Think of people who work in the emergency room, ambulance service, police, fire brigade or defense.


Shocking events

For example, an accident, disaster, war, violence, etc.


Accumulation of trauma

Traumas that arise from an accumulation of events such as a divorce, financial worries, infidelity, conflicts, etc.


What is an emotional block?

The limbic system is not only disrupted by trauma. It can also be about emotional blocks. If an emotion is acknowledged, expressed and processed, it is a normal experience and physical expression. Think of anger or sadness that expresses itself through clenched fists or crying. When emotions are suppressed and repressed, the unprocessed information is stored in the limbic system and remains an unconscious and persistent stressor.
